While it’s always amazing to get our hands on oodles of new TV shows and movies (we’re dying to binge Iron Fist ! A new promo spot for Dark Phoenix sees the X-Men go to space to rescue trapped astronauts. In two and a half weeks, the final film from the main X-Men saga rolls out. Directed by Simon Kinberg, a long-time X-Men film producer, the film’s narrative is based on Chris Claremont’s The Dark Phoenix saga, and will feature Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey fully transforming into the Dark Phoenix teased at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse....
The Unicode Consortium has announced today that it is delaying the release of Emoji 14.0 due to COVID-19. The news was announced in a blog post, with the delay being attributed to the “lead time for developers to incorporate emoji into mobile phones.” As explained by Jeremy Burge on Twitter, what this means is that the new emoji introduced in version 14 won’t come to major platforms until 2022, as opposed to 2021....
Guys, meet the new Santoku Linux! Santoku is a general purpose kitchen knife which originated from Japan. Santoku means “three virtues” or “three uses” (Wikipedia). This distribution is not from Japan, but the name was suggested by Thomas Cannon of viaForensics (who happens to be the project leader of Santoku Linux) because the distribution was crafted specifically for Mobile Forensics, Mobile Malware Analysis, and Mobile Security Testing. The current alpha release is based on a fork of the OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) MobiSec Ubuntu distro thus making this alpha release an OWASP MobiSec Remix (released under GPL) with added tools from viaForensics and some of its contributors or supporters....
Fears have been raised about the prospect of a new US trade war with several different countries over their decision to impose taxes on tech giants. Background Apple, for example, funnelled through to Ireland all the sales revenue from Apple Stores and online sales across Europe, thereby avoiding corporation tax in each of those individual countries. It then paid an extremely low rate of tax in Ireland. To address this, a number of countries put in place measures to ensure that at least some corporation tax was paid locally....
WWDC kicks off next Monday in San Jose, and Apple is busy preparing the McEnery Convention Center for a week of events. A set of new renderings of the proposed Union Square Apple retail location was presented to the San Francisco Planning Department this week that show an updated design for the store’s entrance. The new renders depict the store with massive 23-foot wide sliding glass doors (which measure nearly 45 feet tall each) that a large section of the storefront to open to the street. Regular-sized doors on either side of the larger ones will allow customers to come and go if the main doors are closed....

Wiliot is seeing success with its paper-thin Bluetooth sticker chip that could land in devices later this year. On Thursday the librarian of Congress issued a Final Rule that prohibits largely on copyright grounds jailbreaking, rooting, and ripping the millions of digital devices that help define daily life. Technically, the Final Rule is born from the general status of the DMCA that makes it illegal to tamper with any scheme to manage digital rights. A new report claims that the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, led by veteran screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, is set to change hands. According to Hollywood magazine Deadline, the film will be moving from Sony Pictures to Universal Pictures by tomorrow at the latest. Despite the studio move, production of the movie is expected to remain on the fast track. “I’m hearing very strongly that Universal is indeed locking down the Jobs project and essentially giving it a green light,” writes Deadline reporter Mike Fleming, Jr....

Following the release of Apple TV update version 6.1 alongside the release of iOS 7.1 in early March, we’ve received several reports of an issue with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound in the Apple TV’s Netflix app. Following the update, users with 5.1 systems are only able to get stereo output from Netflix on the Apple TV. There have been an increasing number of complaints online in several Apple support forums as recent as this morning, but up until now Netflix and Apple have been quiet on the issue....
