Marvel Studios has been tightening its stranglehold on the superhero genre ever since Samuel L. Jackson appeared as Nick Fury in the post-credits scene of Iron Man. In the nine years since, Marvel has built a multi-billion dollar film franchise that’s only gaining more momentum. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now well into Phase 3, with Captain America: Civil War alone earning the company $1.15 billion, and Doctor Strange releasing to universal acclaim....

Facebook has been getting a lot of heat as of late due to its users’ privacy concerns about the platform. New York Media’s CRO and publisher Avi Zimak takes a deeper dive into online media as a whole, more specifically noting that Apple News has promise. Zimak first states that it had very little traffic from Facebook, and that was even smaller after the company changed its algorithms to bury content on the News Feed....

Few horror films and franchises are as well-known as Friday the 13th. However, after the first film’s release in 1980, prolific and respected film critic Gene Siskel, one half of the well-known Siskel and Ebert, tried to take it down by posting a scathing review in an attempt to hurt sales; his actions had the opposite effect. If Siskel had been successful in deterring audiences from going out to see Friday the 13th, the horror world would be incredibly different today....

Continuing its push to make solid-state drives (SSDs) the dominant storage medium of next-generation computers, Samsung has revealed the PM1633a, a 15.36TB SSD that is believed to be the world’s highest-capacity hard drive. More amazingly, notes an Ars Technica report, that incredible capacity — over 120 times the storage of an entry-level MacBook Air or MacBook Pro — fits within a compact 2.5″ hard drive enclosure. The PM1633a’s debut ahead of a comparably capacious spinning platter hard disk demonstrates the degree to which SSDs are rapidly replacing traditional hard drives....

Attendees of the 53rd New York Film Festival in October will be treated to an early screening of Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming ‘Steve Jobs’ biopic. While the Hollywood version of Steve Jobs biography is set to debut in theaters on October 9th, the NYFF announced today that it will screen the film to attendees on October 3rd: The film, which is based on the authorized Walter Isaacson-written biography of the late Apple co-founder, stars Michael Fassbender in the lead role with Seth Rogen portraying Steve Wozniak....

Netflix’s The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind is based on a disturbing but ultimately uplifting true story, although did change several aspects of the real William Kamkwamba’s (Maxwell Simba) life. Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut is out now on Netflix and is already one of the streaming service’s must-see films of 2019. Telling the story of a teenager living in near-poverty in early-2000s Malawi, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind explores political upheaval, societal crisis and family drama to tell a story about youth’s relation to, and evolution past, the old....

A new collection of high-res images from upcoming Marvel Studios movie Captain Marvel feature the shape-shifting Skrulls, the elite Kree fighting team Starforce, Carol Danvers’ old friend Maria Rambeau, and more! Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since last year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, and like that movie it’s set before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The announcement that Peter Capaldi was to leave Doctor Who immediately set the wheels of speculation turning. Who will be the next Doctor and, more importantly this time around, what gender will they be? Apple posted a user guide for the fifth-generation iPod touch to iBooks early this morning, indicating a retail launch for the device is coming sooner rather than later. Apple promised an October timeframe for preorders of the device shipping from its Online Store, but today we get word from readers that Apple is now shipping orders of the fifth-generation iPod touch, as well as the new iPod nano, with delivery expected early next week....

NBC is readying its presentation at the network upfronts, and has released its full fall 2019 TV schedule. The Peacock Network has recently finished the unpleasant work of canceling various programs, among them the freshman sitcom I Feel Bad, as well as Midnight, Texas, Reverie, and the underrated comedy Trial & Error. But the network has renewed plenty other shows, like Manifest, The Blacklist, Superstore, and The Good Place. That leaves NBC with just a few slots to fill in when the new TV season begins this fall....

Images have recently emerged showing new Lexus SUVs being used by Apple that feature an updated array of sensors and cameras on top. While Apple has been using such vehicles for some time now, these new cars seemingly feature a much more elaborate and advanced sensor setup. The updated Lexus car was first spotted near Apple offices in Sunnyvale, California by MacRumors. As we’ve reported in the past, Apple has leased several buildings of office space in Sunnyvale for work on its car efforts, though the fate of that project is currently somewhat unclear....

New Mutants writer/director Josh Boone teases the beginning of pre-production on 20th Century Fox’s upcoming X-Men series film. Logan is just the latest movie in the X-Men franchise, but it definitely won’t be the last. Even though Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, as Wolverine and Professor X, have now said goodbye to the characters they first portrayed almost 17 years ago, a whole new set of actors are now ready to take the series in multiple directions....

Safari First announced in June, macOS Big Sur is perhaps the most significant operating system update for Mac in a generation. Featuring a redesign that feels lighter and more robust than previous versions, macOS Big includes everything from updated menu bars and sounds to reimagined apps such as Messages and Maps. The changes brought forth in the Safari app are also significant, although they don’t change the fundamentals of web surfing on a desktop....

A lot of viewers were surprised today to learn that many popular apps are going to be returning to the Mac App Store.
