Netflix is rolling out a redesigned homepage that brings the biggest change to the desktop version of the streaming video site since it ditched Microsoft’s Silverlight plug-in in favor of HTML5 with Safari for OS X Yosemite last year. The overhauled design behaves much more like an iPad or iPhone app with fewer page changes and much more information and interactions on a single web page. A new video was recently posted on YouTube showcasing purported Lightning-enabled EarPods. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen Lightning EarPods shown off, but it’s the first time that we’ve seen them showcased in action on video. The video shows the Lightning-enabled EarPods being used with an iPhone 6s. If Apple does end up producing Lightning-enabled EarPods, one would expect the version that ships with the iPhone 7 to contain an inline remote, and the EarPods on the video do....

A new app created by the supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is aiming to integrate the virtual and physical shopping process, allowing you to create shopping lists, be guided to those products in the store and to pay on your smartphone, skipping the checkout queues. It is currently being tested internally, with customer trials to follow early next year, initially in the UK. Sainsbury’s says that the app is all about saving time....

Samsung officially appointed a new CEO today to replace Choi Gee-Sung, who will now take up a position as head of corporate strategy overseeing Samsung Group’s roughly 80 companies. Choi, who was CEO for over three decades, will be replaced by Kwon Oh-hyun, who Reuters explained is currently head of Samsung’s components business and has deep relationships with Apple. Samsung made a statement claiming there will be no major changes in the way the company operates, because Kwon will continue to run the components business that “became the sole supplier of the mobile processors” for iPhone and iPad under his leadership:...

It’s certainly not the only connected-security camera, but following Google’s acquisition of popular security cam maker Dropcam last year, the company has just launched a second-generation product with new features. Netflix has today updated its iOS app with better navigation and refreshed media controls. This update brings it to version 11.12.0 and is available now for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. In terms of media controls, Netflix is making it easy to “jump to the exact point you want to” by double tapping the left or right side of the screen for going forward and back. This is similar to how YouTube handles skipping forward and back....

Broadcom today announced a first of its kind 5G WiFi system-on-a-chip that will bring faster 802.11ac WiFi and improved performance to smartphones. Apple currently uses a WiFi chip based on the Broadcom technology in the iPhone, iPad and Mac products making the new 5G chip a likely successor for next-generation iOS devices. The chip is the first to implement 2×2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) on a smartphone and Broadcom said that will significantly improve performance over current implementations of 802....

Some new shots of a purported iPhone 6 metal chassis have appeared on the web today. The images line up with previously leaked iPhone 6 design schematics, a blurry picture of a frame, dummy models, cases, and manufacturing components.
