Israeli privacy company D-ID claims that the business’ deepfake technology can create versions of people that are distinct enough to be used in commercials without consent. D-ID’s software uses advanced algorithms to gather data from footage to replicate a person’s face and alter it to a degree that protects their identity. The company’s deepfakes use computer vision and deep learning to achieve the feat of changing a person’s appearance. The latter is a set of machine algorithms that analyzes images in layers to pull out more refined details....

Apple has shared a new story on its Newsroom website today detailing how the iPad is being used by students in New Zealand to create an app for students. The story explains that students in New Zealand used an iPad and Keynote to create a prototype Samoan language app for younger learners. When kids from Bromley School, a primary school that serves some of Ōtautahi Christchurch’s underprivileged communities in New Zealand, saw their Samoan language teacher move to a local high school, students decided that they wanted to continue to learn Gagana Sāmoa — the language of the Samoan Islands — but no replacement teachers were available....

NBA legend Kobe Bryant dies in a helicopter crash at age 41. While he was primarily known for his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers (winning 5 NBA championships), Bryant also left a mark in the entertainment industry. Netflix’s Lord of the Flies-inspired TV show first look images have been revealed. The upcoming TV series, known as The Society, has been building momentum over the last few months, in anticipation of its upcoming May release. The series is not to be confused with the in-development female-centric remake of Lord of the Flies. There are a pair of new iPhone 7 schematics circling the Internet today, depicting the 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch SKUs of Apple’s next-generation flagship phone. The 4.7 inch iPhone 7 drawing appears pretty much as expected, resembling the iPhone 6s by and large with repositioned (and larger) rear camera and redesigned antenna lines. The storage company reported second quarter revenue of $1.57 billion with net income of $224 million, or 98 cents a share. Non-GAAP earnings for the quarter were $1.28 a share. Wall Street was expecting NetApp to report second quarter revenue of $1.55 billion with non-GAAP earnings of $1.21 a share. The bulk of NetApp’s sales in the quarter were attributed to hybrid cloud deployments. A new trailer for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake focused on the interpersonal relationships and moody disposition of the game’s playable protagonist, Cloud Strife. Previous trailers revealed returning characters and set up the game’s world, but this one consisted mostly of conversations between Cloud and the other characters. Apple’s campus stores were refreshed this week with a new lineup of exclusive T-shirt designs that are sure to delight visitors well-versed in Apple history. The seasonal collection is available now for a limited time, and shirts cost $40 each. At Apple Infinite Loop, 12 new designs have debuted.
