On Christmas week, Netflix is leaving holiday content behind and instead is bringing another comedy special, the second season of a sci-fi series, and the second season of a psychological thriller. As 2019 nears its end, the streaming wars continue but so does life at Netflix, with new content (both licensed and original) being added every week – and it takes no Christmas breaks.

Last week, the platform added Burlesque, The Danish Girl, and the remake of Jacob’s Ladder, along with fresh content with Ronny Chieng: Asian Comedian Destroys America!, The Witcher, and The Two Popes. This week’s new additions include the war movie Jarhead: Law of Return, a dose of horror with Blumhouse’s Sweetheart, family friendly content with The Secret Life of Pets 2, and the crime drama Lawless. There really is something for everyone.

Netflix’s original content this week also offers a bit for every taste, with John Mulaney’s new (children’s musical) comedy special, the second season of a sci-fi TV series, and the second season of a psychological thriller starring Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, though this character is nothing like Dan Humphrey. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend - December 27.

John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch

If you’re looking for a comedy special suitable for the whole family, John Mulaney has come to the rescue. John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch mixes comedy sketches, catchy songs, and more, with the help of some very special guests, such as Jake Gyllenhaal and Natasha Lyonne. It’s a comedy special “from a man with neither children nor musical ability”, so you bet things will get interesting.

Lost In Space - season 2

The second season of Lost in Space is finally here. The series is a reimagining of the 1965 show of the same name, which in turn is a reimagining of the 1812 novel The Swiss Family Robinson, by Johann David Wyss. Lost in Space is set in the aftermath of an impact event that threatens the survival of humanity. The Robinson family is chosen for a mission that will carry selected families to colonize the Alpha Centauri star system, but before they reach their destination, a robot breaches the hull, forcing an emergency evacuation. A group of colonists, including the Robinsons, crash on a nearby habitable planet where they are forced to confront their own demons in order to survive, while also looking for a way back to the spacecraft.

Season 2 of Lost in Space continues following the efforts of the Robinsons and company to survive after their attempt to approach the Resolute spaceship failed and were pulled through a wormhole. They will also have to deal with some truly menacing alien creatures, so the mission will only get more complicated.

You - season 2

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is back and he has found a new woman to obsess over. You is a psychological thriller based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, and follows bookstore manager Joe Goldberg who falls in love with aspiring writer Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail). Joe develops a toxic obsession and uses social media to track her and remove any obstacles to their romance. You season 2 follows Joe as he runs from his past and moves to Los Angeles, where he meets Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) – but the past quickly catches up to him.
