This weekend, Netflix is bringing more diversity with a new comedy series, the third season of a one-of-a-kind cooking show, and a new comedy drama series. The world of streaming continues expanding, but the streaming wars seem to have calmed down for now, though there are still some platforms preparing to launch at some point this year. Still, life at Netflix continues its course with new content every week.

Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but Netflix didn’t pay much attention to it, bringing just one romance movie with To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and balancing it with the second season of Narcos: México and A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon. Unlike last week, which saw the addition of Good Time, Anna Karenina, and By The Sea, this weekend won’t have much licensed content to offer, the most notable title being the comedy A Haunted House.

Instead, Netflix will be all about new original content, with a comedy series with a young female lead, the return of Jon Favreau and Roy Choi, and a comedy drama series offering a different look at the lives of Mexican-Americans. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend - February 21.

The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia

From the minds of Seth Kurland and Mario Lopez comes a new comedy series on Netflix this weekend. The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia follows 15-and-a-half year-old Ashley (Paula Chávez), a robotics engineer and rocket scientist who moves in with her uncle Victor (Jencarlos Canela) from across the country to work for NASA. Because she went to college at a very young age, Ashley will do her best to catch up with everything she has missed as a teen with the help of her childhood friend Brooke (Bella Podaras), while uncle Victor learns how to be a parent figure.

The Chef Show - volume 3

Jon Favreau and Roy Choi are back with more recipes, conversations, travels, and guests. Netflix’s The Chef Show is a different type of cooking show, with actor and director Jon Favreau and chef Roy Choi visiting different restaurants, trying new recipes, and learning a lot in the process – and not just about cooking. Volume 3 of The Chef Show will see Jon and Roy going to Las Vegas to visit chefs Wolfgang Puck, Sue Milliken, and Susan Feniger, and make a pit stop at Roy’s own restaurant. This season will also see the pair teaching Sam Raimi how to make sourdough bread (you won’t want to miss that).

Gentefied

Netflix’s Gentefied is a comedy-drama series created by Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez. It follows the story of three Mexican-American cousins – Ana (Karrie Martin), Erik (Joseph Julian Soria), and Chris (Carlos Santos) – as they struggle to chase the American Dream and save their grandfather’s popular taco shop as the neighborhood becomes more gentrified. The cousins will explore their heritage, family bonds, and their connection with their community while navigating themes of gentrification and marginalization of the Latino community in America.
