This week, Netflix is bringing one of the most anticipated movies of the year, another Christmas movie, a Christmas miniseries, and a Cannes Film Festival competitor. November has come and gone, and it brought a variety of movies and TV shows to Netflix, though most of them were Christmas themed – the holiday spirit arrived very early this year.

This month saw the arrival of the Fab Five’s adventures in Japan in Queer Eye: We’re In Japan!, the second season of The End of the F***ing World, the third season of The Crown, and more. Of course, there was also licensed content, most notably Grease and all Matrix movies. The final days of November aren’t bringing much when it comes to licensed content, but December 1 is arriving with some very interesting titles, such as Malcolm X and Searching for Sugar Man – or if you want something lighter, Netflix is also adding movies like A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish and all Austin Powers movies.

However, Netflix’s strength this week is its original content, with Martin Scorsese’s latest film, a Christmas comedy (yes, another one), a Christmas miniseries with some familiar faces, and the company’s contender at Cannes Film Festival. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this week - November 29.

The Irishman

After exploring other genres for a few years, Martin Scorsese returned to mob movies with The Irishman. Based on Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses, The Irishman follows truck driver Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) who gets involved with Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci) and his Pennsylvania crime family, becoming his top hit man. Sheeran later begins working for Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino), a powerful Teamster linked to organized crime, and things get complicated from then on. The Irishman has been praised for its performances, story, and tone, and it’s definitely a must-watch this weekend.

Holiday Rush

There can never be too many Christmas comedies and Netflix is aware of that. This week’s Christmas movie is Holiday Rush, directed by Leslie Small. The story centers on Rashon “Rush” Williams (Romany Malco), a popular radio DJ who after his sudden firing moves in with his aunt, bringing along his four (very spoiled) children. With the help of his friend and coworker Roxy Richardson (Sonequa Martin-Green), he will try to get his career back on track while also dealing with being a single father.

Merry Happy Whatever

Because Christmas movies are not enough, Netflix is also bringing a Christmas miniseries this week. Merry Happy Whatever follows Don Quinn (Dennis Quaid), the patriarch of the family and sheriff in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as he tries to balance his complicated family life with the stress that comes with Christmas season – especially when his youngest daughter, Emmy (Bridgit Mendler), comes home for the holidays with her new boyfriend. Merry Happy Whatever has a sitcom-style that might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you want something light and Christmas-y, this is a good option.

Atlantics

Atlantics is a supernatural romantic drama film that has been chosen as the Senegalese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards and was Netflix’s selection for Cannes Film Festival 2019. In the suburb of Dakar, workers on the construction site of a futuristic tower, who haven’t been paid in months, decide to leave the country by ocean to pursue a better future. Among those is Suleiman, Ada’s lover – but she has been promised to another man. Ada will then have to deal with her arranged wedding, Suleiman’s departure, and some strange events happening around her.
