Geralt is a noble hero in the world of Netflix’s The Witcher. In a world defined by its intense darkness and morally grey areas, he stands out as a man simply trying to get by and do the right thing. Geralt is forced to make a lot of tough decisions over the course of the show’s first season. For the most part, he seems to do pretty well. For the most part.

There are a few occasions where Geralt trips up. He doesn’t always make the best of decisions. In fact, some of his decisions can only be described as downright shameless. In Netflix’s The Witcher, here are the ten most shameless things Geralt has done.

Scolding Jaskier

There’s a moment towards the end of the season when things between Geralt and Jaskier get very heated. Just after Yennefer leaves Geralt, seemingly for good, Jaskier shows his face again.

Throughout the many adventures that Geralt has had over many, many years, Jaskier has been there for many of them. Because of this Geralt blamed Jaskier for all of his misfortune. Yelling at the bard, Geralt made it known that he hoped to never, ever see him again. They never did for the rest of season one. Hopefully, season two can bring the characters back together.

Invoking The Law Of Surprise

When Geralt finishes saving Duny’s life, he couldn’t have been any more thankful. As a form of repayment, Duny offered to give Geralt anything he asked for. Geralt humbly refused, but Duny insisted.

Stupidly and shamelessly, Geralt invoked the law of surprise. Thereafter, Duny and Pavetta were required to give Geralt something that he doesn’t know he has yet. Immediately after that, the two realize that Pavetta is pregnant. Geralt, therefore, was then destined to take the child, something for which he definitely isn’t ready.

Rejecting Destiny

After his shameless and foolish action of invoking the law of surprise, Geralt was then duty-bound to take care of the yet to be born Cirilla. While it may not have been what he wanted, Geralt had seen some clear examples of what happens when you mess with destiny.

Despite that, Geralt decides to reject this gift. He had invoked the law of surprise and then when it was his time he rejected the call of destiny. It was another shameless action that caused much harm to many people.

Leaving The Child

By rejecting destiny, Geralt left Ciri in harm’s way. This was especially the case when the wars started brewing between Nilgaard and Cintra. Geralt had a duty to take care of Cirilla and he left her behind.

Geralt’s actions here had some serious consequences. Ciri was almost killed during the Nilfgaardian siege. She also had to witness many horrible things.

Taking So Long To Return

If Geralt had taken a few months to realize his mistake and return that would be one thing. If he had taken maybe a year or two that would be alright as well.

Instead, Geralt took over a decade to return to his responsibility. All the while he knew it was his destiny. His shameless actions of rejecting them and leaving her behind were all the more horrible.

Unleashing The Djinn

At one point in the show, Geralt is visibly tired. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days. The truth was he actually hadn’t. Jaskier had found Geralt searching a lake, looking for a Djinn that he knew was somewhere nearby.

Geralt was planning to use the Djinn to finally get some rest. For something so trivial as getting good sleep, its quite irresponsible that Geralt sought out such a terrible and dangerous monster. As was evidenced by its release and the subsequent chaos from that, Djinn are not to be treated lightly. Geralt’s actions here almost lead to the deaths of both Jaskier and Yennefer.

Killing Renfri And Her Men

In all fairness to Geralt, he was put in a very tough position here. Renfri was seeking revenge, rightly so, for the many horrible things that the wizard Stregobor had done to her. Geralt tried to steer her away from her bloodlust but failed in doing so.

Upon realizing that her and her men were going to hold the city of Blaviken hostage, maybe even killing people, until they got what they wanted, he decided to get involved. Immediately Geralt started butchering every single one of them with absolutely no mercy. He eventually even kills Renfri in brutal fashion. These events earned Geralt the title “Butcher of Blaviken”.

Messing With Yennefer’s Destiny…

Upon realizing that it was him and not Jaskier who was bound to the Djinn, Geralt rushes off to save Yennefer, knowing that she will no doubt be getting herself killed by the powerful entity.

With his last wish, Geralt could have said anything. There were a million ways that he could have saved Yennefer. Ultimately, he selfishly decides t0 bind their fates together, robbing Yennefer of some of her free will.

…And Keeping It From Her

After totally binding his fate with this woman that he barely knew, Geralt slept with her. Despite this physical intimacy, Geralt elected not to share with Yennefer what he had wished for and how that affected her.

It was bad enough that Geralt had done this to Yennefer. The least he could have done afterward was explain the situation to her. Instead, he does what’s best for himself.

Striga Bait

One of the more iconic episodes of the show is Geralt’s showdown with the deadly Striga. Upon finding out who was responsible for the creature’s creation, Geralt decided to use that man as bait for the monster. That man no doubt had it coming; he deserved every bit of what he got from that monster.

All that being said, it was insanely cruel to knowingly let someone be mutilated by a Striga, screaming as it tears into his flesh. It is by far the cruelest thing Geralt has ever done.
