While we’ve known for a while that most of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 won’t take place on Earth, a humorous new look behind the scenes reveals at least one pivotal scene will take place on our planet. The opening of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy set up the story of Peter Quill by showing his life on Earth before being abducted and raised in space. With hints as to his otherworldly parentage thrown out in the first movie, many have assumed the sequel’s focus on Quill’s father Ego might take us back to Earth.

In the comics, Ego is a sentient celestial body, but he’ll be tweaked a bit on screen. Taking a human form, as played by Kurt Russell, much of the movie will explore Peter’s past and how Ego factors into things with his mother. While there’s no guarantee any of this will play out on Earth, at least some portion of the movie will take place there.

Jimmy Kimmel Live premiered a new clip from the movie, showing a massive mound of blue goo that quickly consumes a patch of town. Interestingly, it closely resembles the energy explosion the Ravagers are seen caught in during some of the film’s trailers. While there’s no indication as to what this substance is and no context is provided for the clip, the rest of the video provides some fun behind-the-scenes looks at Guardians 2.

Thanks to Disney owning ABC, Kimmel’s show has long been the place where Marvel movies have premiered trailers and clips. This time, Kimmel even got his own Guillermo Rodriquez a part in the movie. The clip follows his journey to playing an extra in the Earth-based scene, where he gets acting tips from Russell and Chris Pratt, gets directed by James Gunn, and compares nipples with Drax. While not much else is revealed about the film, it’s a nice highlight of how much fun the cast and crew have both on screen and on the set.

Of course, the reveal of the Earth scene will spark plenty of speculation. While such a seemingly pivotal scene being shared so glibly is odd, it could mean that it’s not a huge reveal. Perhaps locations all over the galaxy are suffering from these all-consuming piles of goo. It’s unlikely the Guardians’ presence on Earth will be felt until Avengers: Infinity War, so this isn’t necessarily a guarantee that Peter Quill will get to go home just yet. In any case, we can probably expect more information about Earth’s role in the movie to come soon, so stay tuned for all things Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
