Disney continues its marketing for The New Mutants by releasing another unexpectedly great poster. The final X-Men film Fox finished before it was bought by Disney, The New Mutants will finally open in April, two years after its original 2018 release date. Co-written and directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), the movie revolves around a group of young mutants struggling to control their powers who find themselves trapped in a secret facility. The New Mutants themselves are played by actors like Maisie Williams and Anya-Taylor Joy, who were smaller names whey they signed on all those years ago.

Being the last of Fox’s Marvel movies, many wondered if Disney would actually put any effort into marketing The New Mutants. Surprisingly, the Mouse House is arguably doing a better job of promoting the movie than Fox did, unveiling stylish one-sheets and a new trailer that plays up The New Mutants’ horror elements and connections to the greater X-Men mythology. That continues to be the case with the latest one-sheet that dropped online today.

You can check out the latest poster for The New Mutants (which Disney posted to the film’s various social media accounts today) in the space below.

This particular one-sheet is simple yet effective in design, quickly encapsulating the creepy and dark vibe The New Mutants is going for. By comparison, Fox and Boone always seemed to be at odds over the tone the film should embrace, which resulted in the movie being delayed for reshoots in the first place. Fox was apparently uneasy about Boone’s horror approach early on (taking inspiration from The Shining and Nightmare on Elm Street franchise), but changed its mind after the original New Mutants trailer - which emphasized the film’s horror style - earned a warm reception back in 2017. The reshoots were reportedly meant to bring the movie closer to Boone’s original vision, but the director has since indicated his initial cut was the one he wanted to make. Either way, Disney’s marketing is fully committing to making The New Mutants look like a scary superhero movie.

The New Mutants’ horror styling is a big part of the reason why people are still looking forward to the film, even after all the delays. Both it and July’s Morbius are pushing the superhero genre into spookier territory, making them more exciting than a lot of the other comic book projects hitting theaters this year. Neither one is a “proper” MCU movie either, which allows them more creativity when it comes to their tone and general content. Fingers crossed, then, The New Mutants especially will live up to its recent marketing.
