Sony will be releasing new information about its future lineup as 2019 draws to a close, as another State of Play event will announce new PlayStation games and give release dates for titles that have already been revealed. The State of Play events are similar to the Directs held by Nintendo, as they exist to keep the audience updated about the lineup of the system, even if Sony’s outings have lacked the killer announcements that have traditionally appeared in the Nintendo Directs.

The recent State of Play events have included information on titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake and The Last of Us Part II, but they have notably ignored the PlayStation 5. It has come to the point where Sony tells fans not to expect PlayStation 5 news during the upcoming State of Play events, just to keep the audience’s expectations in check.

Sony has announced on the PlayStation Blog that there will be one more State of Play event held in 2019, which is due to be streamed on December 10th. The blog post states that fans should expect new game announcements, release dates, gameplay footage, and updates from PlayStation Worldwide Studios. Even then, fans shouldn’t expect any news related to the PlayStation 5 at the event.

There are a lot of possible announcements that could be made during the upcoming State of Play and one of them could involve the remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The covers of the Resident Evil 3 remakes leaked a few days ago on the PlayStation Network, so it’s possible that the game was planned to be announced at the State of Play, with digital pre-orders going up shortly after. Ghost of Tsushima is another strong candidate for a State of Play appearance, as the game was announced in 2017, yet it still lacks a release date. Predator: Hunting Grounds is another PlayStation 4 exclusive that lacks a release date, while Yakuza: Like a Dragon is lacking an international release date.

It’s not too surprising to learn that Sony won’t be revealing new information about the PlayStation 5 during the State of Play, as it won’t hit store shelves for another year. The PlayStation 5 will be released in the 2020 holiday season, so Sony has plenty of time to promote the system throughout the next year. It’s just a shame that Sony won’t be topping off an incredibly successful sales year with a hint of what’s to come with the PlayStation 5.
