The upcoming film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will debut a brand new scene from its final installment of the new Star Wars trilogy in Fortnite. After launching the sequel trilogy in 2015 with The Force Awakens, J. J. Abrams is returning to the director’s chair to conclude not only the newest trilogy but also the entire nine-film-long Skywalker saga which began in 1977 with The Rise of Skywalker. Thus far, the film’s promotion is staying true to its long-standing hush-hush tradition by keeping important details of the newest movie under wraps.

Nostalgia has played a big part in the marketing of The Rise of Skywalker, and instead of revealing large chunks of new information Disney has instead played off fan’s memories of the old films and shined some light on returning characters. Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), who fans previously saw in the original and prequel trilogies, will return, and his character has been labeled “important” by writer Chris Terrio. Also, recent TV spots and posters for Star Wars 9 has shown Kylo Ren and Rey continuing their battle against one another, but again, no one knows whether this will ultimately lead to a potential alliance between the two characters or it is simply the film’s climactic battle.

As per a recent report from Game Rant, Epic Games will soon be hosting a huge crossover event, one which will see the popular video game Fortnite debuting a brand new scene from The Rise of Skywalker. Confirmation of the event came in the form of an in-game poster near the Risky Reels location, revealing there will be a special live video premiere available to Fortnite players, and there was also a tease the film’s director, J. J. Abrams, will be somehow involved in the crossover. It’s unknown how Abrams will participate, but he will likely do an audio introduction or something along those lines.

The special premiere of the scene will be on December 14th, and the “doors” for the event will reportedly be open at 10:30 am PT, with the “show” starting at 11:00 am PT. Fortnite players will be able to match up games from 10:30 onwards, but they will have to ensure they get to Risky Reels before the 2:00 pm PT start time. This isn’t the first time Epic Games has partnered with Star Wars, as they previously offered fans an Imperial Stormtrooper Fortnite skin when ordering Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order through the Epic Games Store.

With the secrecy surrounding the upcoming Skywalker saga finale, this scene reveal will undoubtedly attract a lot of eyeballs, as it will likely provide audiences with more information than any previous trailer or poster has. The crossover event is also smart as they are targeting a very specific segment of their audience, and it will undoubtedly add to the ever-growing excitement surrounding Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
