Marvel Comics’ new Thor series promises to introduce a new era for Asgard with the Son of Odin as its new ruler. The series will reveal Thor adjusting to his new title as king, facing new cosmic threats and enemies. With Donny Cates coming aboard as writer, many fans are assuming his recent stars will be featured… especially one in particular.

Cates has written more than a few different series for Marvel, with the majority of his focus being on the cosmic regions of the Marvel Universe. With recent series such as Cosmic Ghost Rider, Thanos, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Silver Surfer Black, Cates has become a household name for all things cosmic, and Thor continues the trend. But with the promise of a dark new threat only Thor can defeat, the most obvious answer is a showdown between the god of thunder and The God of Symbiotes. But good news or bad, Knull isn’t the only villain on the way.

A rumor has persisted on Reddit that Knull, the God of Symbiotes and creator of All-Black the Necrosword will be featured in Cates’ new Thor series. As the thread gained more and more attention, Cates himself eventually took notice. As a result, he took to Twitter to give any and all fans the definitive denial they needed: saying Knull will not be in his run of Thor, debunking the rumor in its totality.

The rumor itself is not completely unfounded. Cates created Knull during his run of Venom and the Absolute Carnage comics event. Thor himself has also had run-ins with the Necrosword and Knull in recent years, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that another encounter could have happened in this new Thor series. The complaints about Knull most likely come a perspective that much of Cates’ prior work has featured Knull already. On his Twitter, Cates does go on to say that Knull not being in Thor does not mean that fans won’t see him in the future, or that we won’t face off with the Son of Odin later on down the line.

In any case, it looks as though Cates has much more in store for his new Thor run. Thor’s heading for all new ground, finally assuming his father’s throne, and most likely having some initial struggle in figuring out how best to rule and protect the nine realms. There will be quite a few things worth getting excited about, including a new look and perhaps some new powers, Thor will definitely have plenty going on beyond an appearance from Knull.
