Apple has rolled out three new iPhone commercials that introduce an interesting twist to the formula. Rather than stick with the familiar “There’s an app for that” catchphrase, the new commercials take the opposite angle. Opening with a simple line “If you don’t have an iPhone,” the commercials then launch into a quick overview of key iPhone features, with the voiceover explaining the stuff you’re unable to do unless – you guessed right – you’re a proud iPhone owner....

After announcing the new models on Thursday, Apple today has made its latest MacBook Pro with Touch Bar variants available for in-store pickup. This means you can now place an order via the Apple Online Store and pick your new Mac up from an Apple Store on the same day… As of right now, both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models are widely available for in-store pickup....

A new Bloomberg report says that the new range of MacBook Pro models will have a smaller footprint than existing models, and will be thinner but not adopt the wedge shape of the MacBook Air and 12-inch MacBook. The trackpad is also slightly wider than current models. All of the info lines up with previous reports and a set of leaked shells from earlier this year. The machines are said to already be ‘in advanced testing’ but will not launch until after the iPhone event in September, confirming earlier reports that said that the laptops were scheduled for release in quarter four....

One of the practices that is becoming increasingly common on Twitter, for better or worse, is so-called tweetstorming. Twitter itself, however, doesn’t directly support tweetstorming, so instead, users generally number their tweets and type them out separately from each other. A new tool from longtime blogger Dave Winer, however, aims to make it easier to share tweetstorms… Winer has released a new macOS application called Electric Pork. The application allows users to type out something longer than 140 characters and instantly share it on Twitter....

Recent leaks about the Norse-themed Assassin’s Creed game, previously thought to be called Ragnarok, may not be entirely accurate according to one reliable insider. Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed either way, given they’ve spent much of the last year supporting 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with post-launch expansions. When it comes to when and where the next entry in the blockbuster franchise will occur, the publisher remains tight-lipped. The possibility of an Assassin’s Creed set in the era of vikings first came to light thanks to an in-game poster in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 that referenced the series’ Apple of Eden and Valhalla....

Netflix’s Criminal consists of four segments, separated into four European countries, and while there’s no specific watch order for viewers, one particular order can amplify the viewing experience. The experimental procedural series’ four segments are set in the UK, Spain, Germany, and France. Some people may be unsure about where to start, and if there’s an ideal or logical way to watch from beginning to end. Created by Kay Smith and Jim Field Smith, Criminal plays out like a regular procedural, albeit with some innovative narrative twists....

Netflix’s Mötley Crüe movie, The Dirt, has been confirmed for a March premiere date and a brand new trailer has also been released. Iconic 80s rockers Mötley Crüe were almost as famous for their extravagant, excess-fueled lifestyle as they were for hits such as “Dr. Feelgood,” “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Shout At The Devil” and in 2001, a book called The Dirt was published, chronicling the quartet’s shocking stories from years of non-stop touring and trashing hotel rooms....

Netflix’s The Witcher sees Geralt and Ciri at the heart of it. After claiming her under the law of surprise, completely unintentionally, Ciri’s family see Geralt as bound to protect her when Nilfgaard come for her and although Geralt initially refuses this responsibility, he comes to see a girl he’s never met as his pseudo-daughter who he’s bound to protect. The issue with him finding her and taking her under his wing is that, although there are many reasons Geralt might do an awesome job, he’s definitely not used to being a father and Ciri may just be more than he can handle....

Well-known CyanogenMod developer Koushik Dutta is at it again, this time with a new app for Android that allows users to beam their local content to a variety of set-top streaming boxes, including the Apple TV, Roku, Xbox, PS4, and any other DLNA renderers (via Engadget). The app, entitled AllCast, is incredibly simple to operate. Once it is installed, simply go to a video that is local on your device and tap the cast button in the upper right corner and a menu will pop up, asking you where you would like to cast it....

Apple has now activated the new iCloud Storage tiers, as announced last week at Apple’s September event. The new tiers do not bump the free tier — it remains at 5 GB. However, for $0.99 per month you now get 50 GB of storage, up from 20 GB. The 200 GB plan is now cheaper at $2.99 and the 1 TB plan is now half the price at $9.99 per month....

Director Josh Boone says the New Mutants movie heading to theaters is his original vision for the X-Men spinoff and not a revamped version. Prior to Disney’s purchase of Fox back in March, the latter studio had a pair of unreleased X-Men films in the pipeline. The first of them, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, opened in theaters back in June, but ended up becoming a critical and commercial misfire. Elsewhere, Boone’s New Mutants spinoff had already been delayed a couple times from its original 2018 window before Disney pushed it back again to April 2020....

Victor Costanza, deputy CISO at the NYPA, said the rise in sophisticated cyber attacks prompted them to help municipal utilities implement a strong security program that can detect and mitigate attacks in real-time. “With the technologies provided by IronNet and AWS, the I.T. and power infrastructures in NYPA’s supply chain ecosystem can collect and share anonymized cyber threat information so we can defend our enterprise networks collectively, raising the security posture of all of us throughout the state,” Costanza said....

Update: Apparently, this launch was meant to be more ‘secret’ than official. Netatmo is testing with a small group of customers whilst in beta. A wider public launch is yet to be officially announced. Another popular home security camera now supports Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video feature. Starting this weekend, Netatmo is rolling out HomeKit Secure Video support to its uniquely designed Smart Indoor Camera, enabling more advanced control and recording via the Home app....

Netflix announces that it has partnered with a number of famous Japanese production companies to create a whole bunch of new original anime TV shows. The streaming service already has relationships with Production I.G. (Psycho-Pass) and bones (Blood Blockade Battlefront), and these new additions join its roster in the wake of the success of the likes of Devilman Crybaby. Anime’s popularity is something that Netflix has been smart to cotton on to, and 2018 saw an explosion in the anime offerings on the service....

In 2019, Netflix released 371 original movies and TV shows surpassing the total number of TV shows released in 2005 by the entire industry. The streaming service was launched in 2007. However, its popularity increased rapidly once it started releasing original content. The first ever original Netflix show was political drama House of Cards which premiered in 2013. Two new dramas, Hemlock Grove and Orange Is the New Black, were released just months later....

Open Road Films has posted a new JOBS ‘featurette’ which provides an extended look at the film coupled with commentary from Ashton Kutcher, Michael Stern (Director) and other supporting cast members. New The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim mods allow players to have coffee cups in Game of Thrones fashion while playing the game. Game of Thrones recently brought its eighth and final season to an end, but not without some missteps, including many inconsistencies and errors pointed out by fans. Some believe that season eight was so awful that they felt the need to start an online petition to have the entire season remade, and that petition currently has over 1 million signatures....

The newest trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is an awesome nostalgia trip. The 9th film in the Skywalker saga aims to bring a satisfying conclusion to the story that originally began in 1977. That first film, Star Wars: A New Hope, changed the landscape of action-adventure-sci-fi and became a pop culture phenomenon. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases in theaters next month and will put a period at the end of that sentence—expectations couldn’t be higher....

Neil deGrasse Tyson took to his Twitter account and incorrectly spotted out an error in the film Arrival. Released in 2016, the film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, follows the mysterious and sudden appearance of twelve alien ships around the world. Focusing on the efforts of expert linguist Louise Banks, played by Amy Adams, Arrival’s story centers on humanity’s attempts to try and communicate with extraterrestrial life. The movie is based on a 1998 short story, Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang....
