In an update to the numbers it revealed to Senate Estimates in May, where it had replaced almost 48,000 FttC connection devices across November 2020 to March 2021, NBN said it has now replaced 99,226 NBN Co Connection Devices (NCD) from 1 December 2020 to 11 November 2021. “Between 1 October 2021 and 11 November 2021 NBN Co has replaced a total of 21,424 devices. This includes replacements as a result of multiple severe weather events across the eastern states of Australia during October,” it said....

The Nest Learning Thermostat and its companion iPhone app are receiving up new updates soon, according to a post on the Nest blog. The updated app will get a full makeover, including easier access to certain settings and functions of the Nest thermostat. Also included in the new app is support for the Nest Protect smoke detector. The app’s new interface will make it easier to check or set the status of your Nest thermostat....

Netflix continues to cull its catalog of original series, as Santa Clarita Diet is canceled after just three seasons. The streaming giant has been giving some of its original programs smaller and smaller runs as of late, with series like Marvel’s slate of superhero shows, as well as Friends From College, and One Day at a Time all receiving their pink slips in recent months. Netflix’s The Stranger season 1 cast includes familiar faces like Richard Armitage, Hannah John-Kamen, and Jennifer Saunders. Based on Harlan Coben’s 2015 eponymous novel, the British thriller series revolves around various characters who are blackmailed by a mysterious woman. It will be about two inches square and play video (so technically we were right about being the new video iPods). It is coming in 4GB and 8GB sizes and will likely keep the same pricing. These little square machines are also coming in a new set of colors for all of us sick of the five already out....

Apple officially unveiled its all-new iPad Pro during the “Spring Loaded” event. For the first time, the company highlights RAM differences between iPad models. The 2021 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro feature the 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU M1 chip, and a new Thunderbolt connector (over the same USB-C port). The larger 12.9-inch model also sports a new mini-LED screen, which Apple calls “Liquid Retina XDR.” The company also introduced a new storage option with up to 2TB....

Apple’s latest line of MacBook Pros appear to have been received well by the market, although the most interesting models with Touch Bar are yet to ship to customers. Digitimes reports that Apple is upping component orders for the new MacBook Pros, expected to continue at least until the end of 2016. Apple is apparently “optimistic” about fourth quarter sales. The new 13-inch MacBook Pro and 15-inch MacBook Pro feature high-speed Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, faster SSDs, Skylake processors, better GPU options, larger trackpad and an OLED display ‘Touch Bar’ touchscreen panel to replace the physical row of function keys....

A new image of Finn in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is further proof of how spoiler-averse the film’s marketing campaign is. Using Apple’s set of APIs, the New York Times has opened up in-app subscriptions in their iPhone and iPad app reports Macstories. After setting a paywall not too long ago the New York Times has been looking for ways to get their users to sign up for the subscription. It appears the Times has found their way, through the app store, offering subscriptions for website, iPhone, and iPad access. The Times is charging users $15 for access to the website plus iPhone, $20 for website plus iPad, and a combo of all three for $35....

As Apple’s October 4th event approaches, two of Apple’s announcements have been revealed in Apple’s internal inventory system. The first is a new iPod touch. Three new iPod touch models have appeared in the system with the codename N81A. N81 is the codename for the fourth-generation black iPod touch, so the A likely represents the string of the three new white models. New Mutants should be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Josh Boone’s superhero horror film has been in development hell for several years now, in part as a consequence of the Disney/Fox acquisition. But New Mutants is finally releasing in April, and a new trailer has dropped in advance of the theatrical release. But New Mutants is not part of the MCU. Neither Disney nor Marvel Studios had input into the New Mutants cast, director, or even its overall story....
