Netflix renews Ricky Gervais’ After Life for season 2. The black comedy premiered last month, featuring a distinctly different style from the series creator and lead. Since the beginning of the 21st century, Gervais has been one of comedy’s most controversial figures. With his contrarian societal takes and unapologetic celebrity commentaries, the English comedian’s act transferred to Hollywood awards shows, as Gervais hosted the Golden Globes four times between 2010 and 2016....

While Netflix’s Dracula provides a unique take on the vampire novel, one element that remains impassable is its strange relationship with the vampire’s sexuality. Bram Stoker’s original novel has a history intertwined with eroticism. Published in 1897, it approaches the topic of sex the only way Victorian novels knew how: indirectly. Many scholars have attempted to make sense of the book’s sexual undercurrent, some claiming that Dracula represents Victorian anxieties towards gender and sexual fluidity....

We posted images last month of what appeared to be a logic board for the next-generation iPhone showing an internal look at the A6 chip expected in the iPhone 5. New images of the logic board from HDBlog.it today show an A6 chip and what could be some of the other updated internal components of the iPhone 5. Earlier this year, we reported Apple was internally seeding a faster iPhone with 1GB of RAM and a variation of the A5x chip in the new iPad....

Vietnamese website Tinhte, which has a solid track record of getting its hands on pre-release Apple products and accurate mock ups,today posted what it claims are mock ups of two next-generation iPhones. One is the full-fledged “iPhone 5S” upgrade, while the other claims to show the much rumored low-cost “iPhone 5C” that we’ve been hearing a lot about recently. It’s worth noting that Tinhte says the source of the images, Vietnamese accessory supplier PhukienGiare, also supplied the publication with accurate pre-release mock ups of the iPad mini leading up to its launch....

After several long delays and an acquisition by Disney, New Mutants, featuring Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, AKA Cannonball, is finally headed to theaters. As one of the core characters on the New Mutants, Cannonball hasn’t made it into live-action before, and Heaton gets to portray the character as he’s still learning to master his powers. Unfortunately, since the X-Men are expected to be rebooted to become a part of the rest of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, this could be Heaton’s only turn as the character, and possibly the only time we’ll even see Cannonball and we won’t see his intended impact on the future of the X-Men franchise....

The current cut of Fox’s The New Mutants has reportedly dropped all references to the studio’s X-Men movies, and could eventually become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Writer-director Josh Boone’s adaptation of Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod’s X-Men spinoff comic books was one of the last Fox Marvel movies produced before the Disney-Fox deal was finalized in March, along with Dark Phoenix. The latter hit theaters in June and was poorly received by critics on its way to becoming Fox’s lowest-grossing X-Men film of all time....

Netflix is teaming with acclaimed anime director Yasuhiro Irie to create Eden, a new four-episode sci-fi anime currently set for release in 2020. This will continue Netflix’s recent push toward producing original anime content for both niche and mainstream audiences. Netflix is purportedly planning to spend $15 billion on content this year to enhance its slate of original content. Some of that $15 billion is going toward building up its anime content through collaborations with known anime talent like Irie, the director behind Eden....

Netflix today announced its Q1 2019 earnings, reporting $4.5 billion in revenue, up 22.2 percent year-over-year. In its quarterly letter to shareholders, Netflix addresses newfound competition from Apple and Disney, but it doesn’t seem too worried. Netflix says that both Apple and Disney are “world class consumer brands” with which it is excited to compete. Today at CES 2018, Netgear plans to add an offering of its own, announcing the delivery of HomeKit support for their Arlo Baby Smart HD Monitor Camera. Following today’s announcement, users will soon be able to say “Hey Siri, show me the nursery,” and receive a live video stream from their Arlo Camera with 2-way audio directly to the iOS Home app....

Boutique hardware designer Analogue’s first portable console, the Analogue Pocket, will give collectors a new way to play Nintendo Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges when it launches next year. The company previously released high-end consoles capable of playing NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis games. Analogue’s retro consoles play cartridges using what’s called an FPGA chip to essentially recreate the hardware of the original console, rather than emulating them through software....

New data from eMarketer predicts that this year, 182.5 million United States customers will subscribe to an over-the-top streaming service. Of that market, Netflix holds around an 87 percent share. That means, of the 182.5 million people paying for over-the-top streaming services, 87 percent subscribe to Netflix. A new musical called “Nerds” about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates is set to hit Broadway and at the same time be the first show of its kind to feature an in-show app experience, onstage holograms, and other new technologies.
