In 1984, Wes Craven introduced the world to a one-of-a-kind slasher in A Nightmare on Elm Street, but the franchise peaked with New Nightmare a decade later, mixing the real world and the fictional universe of Freddy Krueger. The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has a total of eight films, including Freddy vs Jason, and one remake from director Samuel Bayer in 2010, which didn’t appeal to fans. Among all these sequels is Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, released in 1994, which brought a twist to the horror genre and a franchise that was already defying some horror tropes and “rules”....

Mark Ulriksen, an artist who created illustrations for New Yorker magazine for almost 20 years, says that he went from being ‘technologically illiterate’ to an iPad evangelist after buying an iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil and the drawing app Procreate … Ulriksen told Business Insider that he felt he had no choice but to attempt to make the transition. Friends advised him to get an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and the Procreate app, and he said he quickly understood why....

As expected, Apple’s new 2018 iPad, which was announced earlier this week, has arrived at retail locations. Both Apple retail stores and Best Buy locations are showing stock, allowing customers to walk in to a store and purchase a 6th-generation iPad today. As noted in previous posts, this new iPad stands out as special, because it’s the first non-Pro iPad model to feature Apple Pencil support. With this in mind, if you don’t already own an Apple Pencil, you may want to consider picking one of those up as well....

Apple’s new iPhone 12 Leather Sleeve with MagSafe is now available to order. The accessory was first announced alongside the iPhone 12 lineup back in October, but it’s now available to order via the Apple Online Store for $129. The Leather Sleeve for iPhone 12 is designed to hold your device while it’s not in use. There’s a small cutout on the front that allows you to see the time on your iPhone 12’s display, as well as a leather strap at the bottom....

Taylor Swift’s surprise album release last week is setting records on streaming services. As reported by Deadline, Swift’s new album Folklore set a record for the most streams in 24 hours for a pop album on Apple Music, garnering 35.47 million plays. Interestingly, the streaming numbers for Folklore on Spotify are even more impressive. According to Swift’s record label, Folklore was streamed 79.4 million times during its 24 hours of availability....

Although Steven Moffat stepped down as the showrunner of Doctor Who in 2015, his newest series, Dracula, clearly borrows from his time with the Timelord. Steven Moffat’s time at Doctor Who was controversial. While he did create some of the best monsters in the canon, he also made several character and plot choices fans disapproved of. When it was announced he would be teaming up with Mark Gatiss to create a new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel, Dracula, it was uncertain what elements of writing he would bring with him....

The purpose of IP is to make networks like the internet possible. Within a subnet, it is possible to route traffic at the physical layer using MAC addressing; however, this approach doesn’t scale. As a result, the internet works using IP addresses, which uniquely identify computers on the internet. The Internet Protocol layer contains these addresses and is used to route traffic through the internet. IP is unusual in that there isn’t only one version of IP traffic headers....

Here’s an interesting little tidbit we didn’t notice until just now: Apple boots those new MacBook Pros into 64-bit Snow Leopard rather than 32-bit, like every other Mac out there save the Mac Pro (which the MacBook Pro certainly competes with and juice up to 16GB of RAM). We’re sure some people noticed it before but we hadn’t seen it elsewhere. Also of interest, the new MacBook Pros have 6Gb SATA III which was benchmarked pretty spectacularly by BareFeats....

Sonos has officially unveiled its newest product and it’s looking to disrupt the portable speaker market. In a follow-up to the larger Move portable speaker, the Sonos Roam is in the ultra-portable category with compelling specs and features. At just under 1-pound, Roam offers “brilliant sound” with AirPlay 2, auto WiFi and Bluetooth switching, Qi wireless charging, 10-hour battery life, and more. We got a sneak peek at the Sonos Roam last week in an FCC listing....

David Fincher and Netflix first teamed up in 2013 for the dark political drama House of Cards, the series that was largely responsible for putting Netflix on the map as creators of original content. House of Cards is still going strong into its fifth season and now has 33 Emmy nominations under its belt altogether. Since that first success, Netflix has dramatically expanded its stable of original series and is now regarded as a more-than-legitimate competitor to broadcast and cable networks....

Apple has increasingly been encouraging app developers to switch to a subscription model, rather than a one-off purchase cost or in-app purchases to unlock features. It’s now continuing this push with a new video on its developer site … The appeal for developers is obvious: subscriptions generate the holy grail of tech businesses, recurring income. But users appear less convinced. A survey back in July found that the majority of iOS app users prefer a one-time payment to a subscription....

Update 6/30: It appears iOS 7.1.2 has resolved the issue: A state management issue existed in the handling of the telephony state while in Airplane Mode. This issue was addressed through improved state management while in Airplane Mode. A new lock screen bypass has been discovered in iOS 7 that allows anyone to skip the default authentication method. The shocking part about this bypass is that it can be done in under five seconds....

NCIS is a CBS crime drama that has been on the air for over sixteen years. Through that time the show has seen its characters enter into a number of both platonic and romantic relationships with each other, usually starting as merely coworkers with bonds developing over time. Not all friendships have the same amount of chemistry, resulting in some of these friendships being stronger and with better chemistry than others....

Update: Looks resolved… The official Nest Mobile app for iPhone and iPad appears to have been removed from the App Store for the time being following complaints from users that the latest version of the app crashes at launch. The Nest Mobile app is used to remotely interface with the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector from the iPhone and iPad. Nest has acknowledged the issue via Twitter with a message regarding the software bug: “We’re currently investigating an issue causing the Nest iOS app version 4....
