Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club series casts Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein. Some 30 years after the original YA book series was released, Netflix is moving forward with a TV adaptation of the highly popular stories, which involve a close-knit group of teenage girls in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The Baby-Sitters Club was created by author Ann M. Martin and first published back in 1986. Since then, Martin has written a total of 35 books and the series has gained immense popularity, selling over 180 million copies worldwide....

A new supply-chain report supports long-running rumors that this year’s iPhone will abandon aluminum in favor of glass back and front. The Digitimes report states that Apple will use a stainless steel frame to hold together glass panels along the lines of the iPhone 4 design. The prospect of a mostly-glass design was first raised in a KGI note in April of last year, supported by subsequent reports from Foxconn, glass suppliers and elsewhere....

In the runup to the movie’s release on October 9th, Aaron Sorkin’s “Steve Jobs” film is currently airing a new trailer on TV. Netgear says it is tracking issues related to using HomeKit accessories with its Orbi mesh routers. Apparently, a recent firmware updated was intended to fix an issue with Google Home integration but accidentally broke the Apple HomeKit protocol in the process. The company is releasing special firmware updates, downloadable here, as an interim fix. The issue is causing many users to see ‘No Response’ errors for most accessories connected to the HomeKit home, when running off a Netgear Orbi network....

The China Times (via Macotakara) is forecasting an October launch for the Haswell-based MacBook Pros. Citing supply chain sources, which are often far more reliable on specs than they are on timing, the report notes that, based on pricing, the new MacBook Pros should remain in the same price range as present models. Apple is widely expected to launch its new iPhones and iPads in the September-October timeframe ahead of the holiday buying season....

The vulnerability is also known as “Baron Samedit.” It was discovered in January 2021 by security auditing firm Qualys and fixed at the end of that month with the release v1.9.5p2. The researchers developed three exploits for the vulnerability and were able to obtain full root privileges on Ubuntu 20.04 (Sudo 1.8.31), Debian 10 (Sudo 1.8.27) and Fedora 33 (Sudo 1.9.2). Other operating systems are likely exploitable, the researchers said....

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published today a series of recently-granted patents filed by Apple Inc., one of which is an Apple TV related patent for recording episodic cable TV and credits Steve Jobs as an inventor. Netflix decides to remove controversial footage of a real-life disaster from its post-apocalyptic film Bird Box. Arriving late last year on the streaming platform, the film quickly became a hit as it led to a viral challenge based on the film. The Bird Box Challenge caused some unfortunate accidents even after Netflix warned viewers about participating. While Bird Box became a huge success, a piece of footage from the movie has been causing a public outcry for the past few months, but Netflix initially didn’t agree with removing the footage....

Slightly ahead of the keynote later today, Apple has pushed some of its new APIs for developers into the open-source channels. The class in question is a new view that appears to replace the current iOS and OS X WebKit implementations, which enables apps to show webpages and other content inline.
