Netflix continues to expand its ever-growing catalog of anime with the official confirmation on the release date of the popular Neon Genesis Evangelion. The streaming platform has just released a trailer for the legendary mid-90s mecha series, and fans will be able to stream the two tie-in films, Evangelion:Death True² and The End of Evangelion, for the first time ever. Neon Genesis Evangelion centers around the story of Shinji Ikari, a 14-year-old boy who was invited by his father to pilot an Evangelion unit unbeknownst to him....

Computer giant HP is following Apple’s environmental example in promising to achieve net zero emissions. However, while Apple achieved this in 2018 for its own operations, and is pledging to do so for its entire supply-chain by 2030, HP is setting itself a less ambitious target… HP says that it will halve its 2019 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, but doesn’t plan to hit net zero until 10 years later, in 2040....

After debuting his new album exclusively on his own Tidal music streaming service last week, today Apple Music is premiering the first music video from the release despite still not offering the actual album. The video for the song “The Story of O.J.” is available to watch within Apple Music, and it’s also being distributed officially on YouTube and elsewhere after initially being exclusively available alongside the album on Tidal....

Last year, Twitter was planning to relaunch its verification program in January 2021, which didn’t happen. Now, the social network has been reportedly planning to finally make available its new self-served Verification Request form next week. Researcher Jane Manchum Wong shared on her Twitter that “multiple sources” have told her that the social network is ready to launch its long-awaited new verification program as soon as next week. Throughout May, Wong shared more details about how the Verification Request form will work and which type of accounts will be eligible to receive the blue badge....

Now all of the network channels and their parent companies are hopping on the bandwagon releasing their own streaming platforms. NBC’s Peacock and Warner Bros’ HBO Max are launching this spring. CBS already attempted to join in the streaming game releasing a streaming service called CBS All Access in October 2014. Viewers could watch current and past seasons that aired on CBS like Big Brother, Big Bang Theory and Elementary at their own convenience....

Bloomberg, quoting two people with knowledge of the matter, say that the company won’t release a new Xbox model until E3 2013, earliest, as it is still making money from the current model. This ends speculation about a new model being announced this year’s E3. The same source says that the new model will probably be shown at next year’s E3, and it will be on the market not long after that....

All iPods will be available in five different colors – Space Grey, Gold, Silver, Pink and Blue. Interestingly enough, although the PRODUCT (RED) option is available, it isn’t listed as a main color of the devices. Looking at the press images it doesn’t look like too much has changed on the outside — all iPods seem to be equipped with the same buttons and displays. The hardware, however, is where it gets interesting....

Apple may have just launched new iPad Pro models, but a supply-chain report today says that Apple will still launch another new model later in the year. It was back in September of last year that Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first predicted iPad Pro models with mini-LED backlighting to launch in the final quarter of 2020, and there have been a series of reports since then supporting this … Background As we’ve stressed before, mini-LED is not the same as OLED screens, nor microLED ones: this relates only to a more efficient method of backlighting for existing LCD ones....

As part of our meanderings through the output from a debugger from a prototype of the next iPhone, we discovered some of the new chips that are going into these devices. Lots of them. One such part that we have not talked about is the Broadcom BCM4334 that has been found in code dumps. The BCM4334 is a step up from the 65nm BCM4330 used on the “new” iPad and the iPhone 4S, and it is notably built on a smaller, more efficient 40nm process....

The Wall Street Journal reported today that Apple and GT Advanced Technologies have reached a settlement in their ongoing bankruptcy case. The settlement, which was approved by the courts earlier today, gives the sapphire supplier up to four years to sell its current stock of sapphire production equipment in order to repay Apple. The two companies previously went head-to-head over who should be considered responsible for the complete failure of the partnership, with GT blaming Apple for making demands the company couldn’t meet while blocking any other contracts GT may have wanted to accept....

The iPhone 12 is expected to be available in three different sizes: 5.4-inches, 6.1-inches, and 6.7-inches. Ahead of the expected announcement this fall, the YouTube channel iupdate has shared a detailed hands-on video with all three rumored iPhone 12 form factors. As a recap, Apple is expected to introduce four different iPhone 12 variations, including a 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch models, and a 6.7-inch option. All four are expected to feature this design similar to the iPhone 4 and iPad Pro, as well as OLED and 5G connectivity....

Mac users are now exposed to a new “ThiefQuest” ransomware that encrypts files and causes multiple issues with the operating system. Malwarebytes has analyzed the ransomware today, which is being distributed through macOS pirate apps. The malicious code was first found in a pirate copy of the Little Snitch app available on a Russian forum with torrent links. The downloaded app comes with a PKG installer file, unlike its original version....

Another “iMac” has shown up on Geekbench (July, May), as AppleBitch notes, which adds to its speculation that an iMac refresh is forthcoming at around the time of the iPhone launch. This one notably has an unlocked Intel processor, 1333MHz RAM and runs a standard 10.8.1 build, which significantly diminishes its likelihood of being real. But there have been some recent shortages on Apple resellers’ websites and now Apple’s own retail stores....

Yearly basketball franchise NBA 2K20 has brought back unskippable ads. After toying with the idea several months ago in last year’s NBA 2K game, 2K has introduced the ads much earlier this time, only weeks after NBA 2K20’s release. In the past, ads included products unrelated to NBA or its games, such as the FX show Snowfall. The franchise, which has recently received widespread backlash due to its microtransactions and predatory nature, is no stranger to in-game hyperconsumerism....

Netflix’s Shadow and Bone TV show wraps filming, as announced in a video introducing the main cast and their characters. Adapted for television by Eric Heisserer (Bird Box), the show is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse universe of books, which include the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology among other spinoffs and series. Netflix announced they were developing a TV adaptation of the Grishaverse in Shadow and Bone last year, revealing the series would follow the events of both the same-named trilogy and Six of Crows....

Florida is set to receive its third new Apple Store in less than one month. Apple Altamonte in Altamonte Springs will reopen to customers on August 31 at 10:00 a.m. The store has been temporarily closed since January 13 for significant expansion. At Altamonte Mall, Apple has merged its previous store with a former francesca’s location to create a larger and more modern space ideal for hosting Today at Apple sessions and showcasing the latest products and accessories....

There are some interesting new advancements for audio coming in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite that Apple didn’t discuss during its keynote presentation earlier this week. Two of the big new audio based features for end users, in addition to revamped CoreAudio APIs for developers, include MIDI over Bluetooth LE support and new features for the inter-app audio feature Apple first introduced with iOS 7. MIDI over Bluetooth LE will allow iOS devices and Macs (and possibly third-party devices) to send MIDI data to one another over Bluetooth....

As someone that often carries around a portable battery or two when on-the-go for extended periods of time (because I don’t particularly like the added bulk of using a battery case), this new MagicMount product from Scosche looks very interesting. A super slim magnetic pad goes on your iPhone, and the battery pack then magnetically attaches to it when needed and connects to your device over a built-in Lightning connector. That gives you the benefits of a battery case by having the portable battery attached to the device, but also allows you to easily remove it once you’ve added enough juice to your device....
